I just spent four days at a conference that had nothing to do with writing. The thing about being a poet is that you listen a little differently, so that even if you’re in a conference session about long-term recovery from addiction, (not entirely unrelated to writing for some people, I suppose), you’re still greedily waiting for the speaker to drop some words you can use in a poem.
Here’s the line that I scooped up–
The shock of being seen.
Feel free to borrow it, play with it, jiggle it around in your pocket for a day or a week. Put it on your dresser at night. Heck, chew on it if you want to.
And use it in a poem.
